Sacramento is about to be placed on the map for being host to a new world record. Last July 2, 2011, Nick Nicora and Brett Enright set out to break a new world record by cooking and serving the World’s Largest Commercially Available Hamburger on the World’s Largest Barbecue Grill at the Alameda County Fairground in Pleasanton, CA. It seems Nicora is up to his old antics again, and this year, he intends to break another world record. Though, this time around, you may need a designated driver,

if you’re planning to attend, because he’s planning to mix the world’s largest cocktail – a 10,500 gallon margarita, AKA the Calarita, in of course the World’s Largest Margarita Mixer, on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Cal Expo in Sacramento, CA in partnership with Hussong’s Cantina. After all, you’ll need something to wash down that 777 lb hamburger, right Nick?

The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes the Margarita that was created by Jimmy Buffet and his Margaritaville, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on October 14, 2011.  The Margarita had a volume of 32,176 liters (8,500 gallons).

Nicora, having experience with Guinness’ rigorous validation requirements from his previous world record, assured that all of the appropriate testing and certifications, calibration of measuring equipment, and qualified witnesses were all in place, and enlisted the help of Joe Belli’s Westec Tank & Equipment Co. to create the massive 25-foot tall, nine feet in diameter, 6,500 pound margarita mixer.

The giant mixer was delivered on a flat bed big rig to Cal Expo, home of the California State Fair in Sacramento.

Nicora is the Co-Owner of Ovations Food Services, one of California’s largest food and beverage services, providing alcohol and concessions services to many California fairgrounds, stadiums, casinos, race tracks, and other venues, including Cal Expo.

Hussong's Cantina, Las Vegas

In a license agreement between Ricardo Hussong, owner of Cantina Hussong’s, the inventor of the original margarita in Ensinada and Calvada, a marketing firm, Nicora replicated the cantina for Ovations Food Services at two major locations including the Orange County Fairground and a  brick and mortar establishment at Cal Expo, as well as portable locations at the Pleasanton and Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

Hussong’s branding is also licensed by Calvada to Cantina Hussong’s in Las Vegas, NV. Specializing in margaritas, each location is a replica of the original Hussong’s in Ensenada.

Since 1991, Nicora established and currently operates four other destinations, including Blues n Brews, a Jazz/Blues bar and grill, Baja Blues, featuring cross-over entertainment, Sliders, a sports bar and grill, and Big Bear BBQ, a country corral.

Hussong was pleased to partner with Nicora in honor of his family’s long history as the inventor of the most popular cocktail in the world.

The mixologist staff will consist of a host of bartenders, engineers, and inspectors, as well as photographers, media and several thousand attendees, witnessing the State Capital claiming fame to a new world record. Nicora plans to begin the pouring process at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the Cal Expo Fairground in Sacramento, one day after the official opening of the California State Fair.

The 10,500 gallon record-breaking cocktail will be served at the World’s Largest Cocktail Shaker on Palm Avenue, across from Cantina Hussongs at Cal Expo in souvenir cups and shakers, with proceeds benefiting Friends of the California State Fair. The cantina host a Calarita Happy Hour from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm through the duration of the fair.

If successful, Nick Nicora will hold two world records for the World’s Largest Commercially Available Hamburger and the World’s Largest Margarita. Throughout the duration of the fair, until the end of July, follow hashtag #Calarita on Twitter to join the conversation.
